SendOwl review: $39 a month and no storefront
SendOwl is delivery infrastructure rather than a shop, and it is worth paying for only if you already have a website to put it behind. Our check of sendowl.com on 12 June 2026, four months before this review was written, recorded Launch at $39 a month, Grow at $87, Scale at $159 and Business at $299, with no transaction fees on any of them.
The short answer
Buy SendOwl if you have your own site and sell enough that a percentage of every sale would cost more than a flat fee. Launch was $39 a month on our check of sendowl.com on 12 June 2026, carrying 20GB of storage and up to 5,000 orders a year, with no cut taken from sales.
Skip it if you have no website yet, because SendOwl does not give you a storefront and buyers land on a bare checkout. Skip it too if your sales are small, since the $39 a month is due whether you sell anything that month or not.
Where SendOwl fits
SendOwl fits the seller who already has somewhere to sell. It handles the checkout, the file delivery and the licence keys, and it expects your own site to do the browsing, the describing and the persuading. That division of labour is the whole product, and it is why the price list looks odd next to platforms that include a shop.
The pricing is flat and takes nothing per sale. Our 12 June 2026 check of sendowl.com recorded Launch at $39 a month, Grow at $87, Scale at $159 and a Business tier from $299, with no transaction fees or revenue share on any tier. Across a year Launch is $468 and Grow is $1,044, before any payment processor's cut.
What the tiers buy is capacity rather than features. The same check recorded 20GB of storage and up to 5,000 orders a year on Launch, 30GB and 25,000 orders on Grow, 50GB and 50,000 orders on Scale, and unlimited storage with up to $200K of annual sales on Business. Storage matters here in a way it does not elsewhere, because video and large files live in it.
The flat fee is the argument, so the arithmetic against a percentage platform is the test. Gumroad takes 10% plus $0.50 per sale with nothing monthly, verified 1 October 2026, and its 10% reaches $39 at $390 of monthly sales. At $2,000 of monthly sales that 10% is $200, against SendOwl's flat $39, a difference of $161 a month in SendOwl's favour before Gumroad's per-sale component.
File protection is the other reason people choose it. PDF stamping, expiring download links, download limits and drip delivery are included rather than sold separately, which is the part of the product that justifies the price for anyone selling something easy to copy.
Against the rest of the category SendOwl is the expensive specialist. Payhip was free with a 5% transaction fee on 11 June 2026 and includes a storefront. Sellfy was $29 a month with 0% fees on 12 June 2026 and includes one too, though it capped annual sales at $10K on that tier. SendOwl asks more and hands you less surface, in exchange for delivery controls neither of those two matches.
This pricing was verified on 12 June 2026 and has not been re-checked since, which makes it four months old as this review is published. The order and revenue limits attached to each tier are the figures most likely to have moved, so read the current rate card before committing. The digital product platforms category holds the alternatives.
SendOwl pricing
SendOwl charges a flat monthly fee and takes no percentage of sales. The figures below come from our check of sendowl.com on 12 June 2026 and have not been re-verified since, so confirm them before you buy. The SendOwl pricing breakdown carries the longer version.
| Plan | Price | What it adds |
|---|---|---|
| Launch | $39/mo | 20GB storage, up to 5,000 orders a year. No transaction fees |
| Grow | $87/mo | 30GB storage, up to 25,000 orders a year |
| Scale | $159/mo | 50GB storage, up to 50,000 orders a year |
| Business | $299/mo | Unlimited storage, up to $200K of annual sales |
The tiers are published rather than quoted, and four things decide which one you need:
- Orders per year, which is the main meter. Our 12 June 2026 check recorded 5,000 on Launch at $39 a month and 25,000 on Grow at $87.
- Storage, because the files live with SendOwl. 20GB on Launch and 50GB on Scale on the same check, which video eats quickly.
- Annual sales, which the Business tier caps at $200K for its $299 a month.
- Monthly sales volume, since the whole case for a flat fee is the percentage you are not paying. Gumroad's 10% reaches $39 at $390 of sales, verified 1 October 2026.
- Payment processor fees, which SendOwl does not take. You connect your own Stripe or PayPal account and their cut is separate from the figures above.
SendOwl pricing against the other digital product platforms
SendOwl is the most expensive entry point in this category and the only one that gives you no shop. Sellfy was $29 a month with 0% fees and a $10K annual sales cap on Starter, verified 12 June 2026, and includes a storefront. Payhip was free at a 5% fee or $29 a month at 2%, verified 11 June 2026, with no revenue cap. Gumroad charges 10% plus $0.50 per sale and nothing monthly, verified 1 October 2026, which is the cheaper option until sales are steady. Those dates differ, so the comparison is not strictly like for like.
SendOwl billing terms worth knowing
Every tier is flat, and every tier has a ceiling on how much you may push through it.
- Launch
- $39 a month, which is $468 across a year. 20GB and up to 5,000 orders a year.
- Grow
- $87 a month, which is $1,044 across a year. 30GB and up to 25,000 orders.
- Scale
- $159 a month, which is $1,908 across a year. 50GB and up to 50,000 orders.
- Business
- $299 a month, which is $3,588 across a year. Unlimited storage, up to $200K of annual sales.
- Transaction fees
- None on any tier as of 12 June 2026. Your processor's cut is separate.
- Free plan
- None on our check. A trial is available instead.
- Check date
- 12 June 2026. Not re-verified since, so confirm the order limits.
SendOwl uses flat monthly pricing with no transaction fees or revenue cuts. Three main plans: Launch at $39/month, Grow at $87/month, and Scale at $159/month. Each tier increases storage, order limits, and revenue caps. A Business plan starts at $299/month for high-volume sellers. No free plan exists, but a trial period is available.
If a SendOwl bill is higher than these rates, the explanation is the tier, because nothing is taken per sale. Our 12 June 2026 snapshot records storage and order limits for the first three tiers and a $200K annual sales figure only on Business, so this page states no other revenue caps rather than estimating them. The creator tool cost calculators will set a year of flat fees against a year of percentage fees once you put your own sales in.
What SendOwl gives up
There is no storefront, and that is the first thing to understand rather than a detail. SendOwl produces checkout links and delivery; a buyer with nowhere to browse sees a payment page and nothing else, so a creator without a website should not start here.
The checkout design is dated and the controls over it are thin, which is a visible cost on a page where people type card numbers. Platforms half the price look more current at the moment of payment.
Every tier has a ceiling. Launch stopped at 5,000 orders a year on our 12 June 2026 check and Business stopped at $200K of annual sales, so growth moves you up a price list rather than simply costing more to serve.
The price list itself is the most common objection raised by long-standing users, who remember paying far less. We hold no verified record of the earlier rates, so this page does not quote them: what we can say is that $39 a month is now the entry point, as recorded on 12 June 2026.
You pay in a month with no sales. Launch at $39 a month is $468 across a year whether you sell steadily or not at all, which is the structural weakness a percentage platform does not have.
There is no marketplace and no discovery, so every buyer arrives because you sent them. Gumroad charges 30% per sale for marketplace discovery, verified 1 October 2026, which is expensive but is a thing SendOwl does not offer at any price.
Our pricing evidence is from 12 June 2026, four months old, and that is the weakest part of this page. The order limits and storage allowances attached to each tier are exactly the figures a vendor adjusts between rate cards, so confirm them before you buy.
How SendOwl compares
The three platforms below are the ones weighed against SendOwl, and the axis is a flat fee for delivery against a percentage for a whole shop. Each price is that vendor's own published rate with the date we checked it, and those dates differ, so read them with that in mind. The wider field sits in the digital product platforms category.
| Tool | Best for | Price | Where it breaks |
|---|---|---|---|
| SendOwl | Protected delivery behind your own website | $39/mo Launch, $87/mo Grow (June 2026) | No storefront, and order limits on every tier |
| Payhip | Selling with no fixed monthly cost | Free at 5%, $29/mo at 2% (June 2026) | Plain storefront and almost no SEO tooling |
| Sellfy | A hosted store with 0% fees | $29/mo Starter, $79/mo Business (June 2026) | Annual sales capped at $10K on Starter |
| Gumroad | Low or irregular sales with no subscription | 10% + $0.50 per sale (October 2026) | The percentage never falls as you grow |
What to test in the SendOwl trial
Our 12 June 2026 check recorded a trial and no free plan, so the trial is the only way to see the product without paying $39 a month. Those figures are four months old, so confirm them as step one.
- Check the current tiers at sendowl.com/pricing. Our $39, $87, $159 and $299 and the order limits behind them are from June 2026 and the limits are the likeliest to have changed.
- Confirm you have somewhere to put the checkout. SendOwl assumes your own site exists, and the trial will not tell you how badly that assumption bites unless you test it on a real page.
- Add up your orders over the last twelve months. Launch stopped at 5,000 a year on our check, which is the number that decides your tier rather than your revenue.
- Total the size of your files. Launch carried 20GB on our check, and a video course will use that faster than a library of PDFs.
- Test the file protection on a real product: stamp a PDF, set an expiring link and a download limit. This is the part of SendOwl worth paying for, so it is the part to try first.
- Run the arithmetic against a percentage platform at your own volume. At $2,000 of monthly sales Gumroad's 10% is $200, verified 1 October 2026, against SendOwl's $39, a difference of $161 a month.
- If the sums favour a storefront platform instead, price Sellfy at $29 a month with a $10K annual sales cap, verified 12 June 2026, and use the cost calculators to total the year.
SendOwl questions buyers ask
How much does SendOwl cost per month?
Our 12 June 2026 check of sendowl.com recorded four plans: Launch at $39 a month with 20GB of storage and up to 5,000 orders a year, Grow at $87 a month with 30GB and up to 25,000 orders, Scale at $159 a month with 50GB and up to 50,000 orders, and Business at $299 a month with unlimited storage and up to $200K of annual sales. All plans include every feature with no transaction fees. That snapshot records no revenue cap on the first three tiers, so none is stated here.
Does SendOwl have a free plan?
No. The cheapest option on our 12 June 2026 check was the Launch plan at $39 a month, with a trial available to test the platform first. If you need a free way to start selling digital products, Gumroad charges 10% plus $0.50 per sale with no monthly fee, verified 1 October 2026; Payhip has a free plan with a 5% transaction fee, verified 11 June 2026; and Ko-fi Shop's free plan carries a 5% service fee on shop sales, verified 15 June 2026.
Who is SendOwl best for?
SendOwl is best for digital product creators who already have their own website and sell enough that a percentage of every sale would cost more than a flat fee. The crossing point is arithmetic you can do yourself: Launch at $39 a month, verified 12 June 2026, equals Gumroad's 10% cut at $390 of monthly sales, verified 1 October 2026, before Gumroad's $0.50 per sale. It is especially strong for creators who need advanced file delivery such as PDF stamping and expiring links, built-in affiliate management, or drip content for courses.
SendOwl vs Gumroad: which is better?
It depends on your revenue. Our 1 October 2026 check of Gumroad recorded 10% plus $0.50 per sale with no monthly fee. Our 12 June 2026 check of SendOwl recorded $39 a month on Launch with no transaction fees. Gumroad's 10% reaches $39 at $390 of monthly sales, so below that Gumroad costs less and above it SendOwl does. Gumroad also includes a storefront and a marketplace for discovery, while SendOwl gives you neither and offers better file protection and affiliate tools instead.
What payment gateways does SendOwl support?
SendOwl supports Stripe, PayPal, BitPay, Apple Pay, Klarna, and European payment methods like Bancontact, iDEAL, and SEPA. You connect your own Stripe or PayPal account and keep your payment relationship: SendOwl never holds your money. Standard Stripe processing fees (2.9% + $0.30) apply on top of SendOwl's flat monthly fee.
Can I sell courses and subscriptions on SendOwl?
Yes. SendOwl supports recurring subscriptions with automatic billing through Stripe, plus drip content delivery where you schedule file releases over time. This lets you sell simple courses or membership content. However, SendOwl doesn't include course features like quizzes, progress tracking, or student dashboards: if you need those, Teachable or Thinkific are better fits.
Does SendOwl handle sales tax?
SendOwl can calculate and display EU VAT at checkout, but it does not act as a merchant of record. You are still responsible for collecting, reporting, and remitting sales tax yourself. If you want a platform that handles global tax compliance automatically, Lemon Squeezy and Gumroad both act as merchants of record and handle taxes on your behalf.
Can I use SendOwl without my own website?
Technically yes: SendOwl generates direct purchase links you can share anywhere (email, social media, link-in-bio). But SendOwl doesn't provide a storefront or product listing page. Without your own site, buyers land on a bare checkout page with no browsing experience. If you want a hosted store, Gumroad, Payhip, or Sellfy include one automatically.
Is SendOwl worth the money in 2026?
At $39 a month on our 12 June 2026 check, SendOwl is worth it if you sell enough to outweigh a percentage and you need PDF stamping, affiliate management or advanced file delivery. At $2,000 of monthly sales, Gumroad's 10% is $200 plus $0.50 per sale, verified 1 October 2026, against SendOwl's flat $39, a difference of $161 a month. Below the crossing point of $390 of monthly sales, where Gumroad's 10% equals $39, a percentage platform costs less overall.
Can I cancel SendOwl anytime?
Yes, you can cancel your SendOwl subscription at any time. There are no long-term contracts. However, be aware that canceling immediately cuts off your buyers' access to their download links. If you have active customers, plan your migration to another platform before canceling. Export your customer data and product files first.
