Skip it Skip the free plan as a home, because its 5 hours of storage is a total for the account rather than a monthly allowance. Skip Podbean altogether if you need several shows on one bill, since that was the Network plan at $99 a month, or $79 billed annually, on that check.
Where Podbean fits
Podbean fits the solo podcaster who wants hosting, distribution and a monetisation path on one cheap bill. Our 13 June 2026 check recorded unlimited storage and unmetered bandwidth on every paid plan, which means neither episode length nor audience size moves the price. Only the plan you choose does.
That is a different bargain from most of this category. An upload-hour host charges you for publishing more and a download-metered host charges you for being heard more. Podbean did neither on our check, so a weekly two-hour show with a large audience pays the same $14 a month as a monthly ten-minute one.
The free Basic plan is the part to read carefully. Our check recorded 5 hours of storage and 100 GB of bandwidth, and the 5 hours is a total for the account rather than a monthly allowance. A weekly 40-minute show fills it in about two months, so treat it as a trial with a public feed rather than a permanent home.
Annual billing is the real discount here and it is large in proportional terms. Our check put Unlimited Audio at $9 a month billed annually against $14 monthly, which is $108 across a year against $168, a saving of $60. Unlimited Plus was $29 against $39, which is $348 against $468, a saving of $120.
Video is the Unlimited Plus step. That was $39 a month, or $29 billed annually, on our June check, which is $25 a month more than Unlimited Audio at the monthly rate, or $300 more across a year. Plus is also where the listener-funded tools sit, so a creator planning paid memberships is on that tier rather than the $14 one.
Several shows mean the Network plan at $99 a month, or $79 billed annually, and single sign-on with private podcasting means Business at $129 a month, or $99 annually. Those are large steps from $14, so a creator who expects to run a second show should price Transistor, recorded at $19 a month on Starter on 1 October 2026, before settling in.

Neither storage nor bandwidth moved the bill on our check, so the plan choice is the whole cost. Four things decide it:
- Whether you publish video. That was Unlimited Plus at $39 a month, or $29 annually, against $14 for audio only, which is $25 a month more at the monthly rate.
- How many shows you run. The Network plan was $99 a month, or $79 annually, which is $85 a month more than Unlimited Audio at the monthly rate.
- Billing period. Annual billing saved $60 a year on Unlimited Audio and $120 on Unlimited Plus on our check, which is the largest proportional discount in this category.
- Whether you need single sign-on or private feeds, which was the Business plan at $129 a month, or $99 billed annually.
Podbean pricing against the other podcast hosts
Podbean was the cheapest unlimited-storage host we recorded. Libsyn recorded Basic Audio at $5 a month on 10 June 2026 and is cheaper, but that tier bought 162 MB of new uploads a month rather than unlimited storage. Buzzsprout recorded Audio at $15 a month on 1 October 2026 with an upload-hour meter. RedCircle recorded a free Core plan with unlimited hosting for one show on 13 June 2026 and takes a share of monetisation revenue instead. Those check dates differ, so compare them with that in mind.

A Podbean bill above $14 a month is a tier you chose for video, several shows or single sign-on, because storage and bandwidth did not meter on our 13 June 2026 check. What Podbean gives up
The free plan's cap is harsher than it reads. Five hours of storage for the life of the account is not a monthly allowance, so a weekly show fills it within a couple of months and then has to pay. Anyone treating it as a permanent free tier will be surprised.
Several shows mean a step from $14 a month to the $99 Network plan, or $79 billed annually. That is $85 a month more at the monthly rate, which is a lot of money for what is organisational rather than technical, and it is the main reason to look at a host that prices unlimited shows into a lower tier.
Video means Unlimited Plus at $39 a month, or $29 annually, so the cheap plan is audio only. That is $25 a month more than Unlimited Audio at the monthly rate, or $300 across a year.
The listener-funded tools sit on Plus too, so the monetisation story that makes Podbean attractive is not available on the $14 tier. Read which plan each revenue feature needs before choosing, because the cheap plan is cheaper for a reason.
The podcast website is basic. It exists, it works, and it is not what you would show a sponsor, so a creator who cares about the show's public page will be building one elsewhere and paying for that too.
