Musicbed review: $16.99 a month, and why most paid work needs the $49 tier
Musicbed prices by what you are allowed to do with the track, not by how many you download. Our check of musicbed.com on 12 June 2026 recorded Solo at $16.99 a month for personal online video, Plus at $49 for commercial and client work, Pro at $99 for broadcast, and per-project licences from $49.
The short answer
Buy Musicbed Buy Musicbed Plus if you deliver commercial or client video and the music has to sound finished. It was $49 a month when we checked musicbed.com on 12 June 2026, which is $588 across a year, and it was the cheapest tier recorded as covering client work, branded content and YouTube monetisation.
Skip it if you publish weekly to your own monetised channel and want the cheapest licensed music that prevents claims. Epidemic Sound Personal was $9.99 a month on our 10 June 2026 check with whitelisting on linked channels, and Musicbed's Solo tier at $16.99 does not cover monetised commercial use.
Where Musicbed fits
Musicbed is a licensing business before it is a catalogue. Our 12 June 2026 check recorded four subscription tiers plus a per-project option, and what separates them is distribution scope: where the finished video goes and whether money changes hands around it. If you are used to buying music subscriptions by library size, this rate card will read strangely until you accept that framing.
Solo at $16.99 a month was recorded as covering personal online video, non-commercial, on your own channels only. That is a narrower licence than the price suggests, and it is where most of the confusion about this product comes from. Across a year, $16.99 a month is $203.88, and if your video earns anything the licence is the wrong one however much you have paid.
Plus at $49 a month is the tier most people who are paying for music need. Our check recorded it as covering commercial use, client work, branded content and YouTube monetisation. At $49 a month that is $588 across a year, which is $32.01 a month more than Solo, or $384.12 more across the year. The step is steep, and it is the real entry price for anyone who makes money from video.
Pro at $99 a month, which is $1,188 across a year on our check, adds broadcast, film festivals, theatrical use and all distribution rights. Enterprise was recorded as custom pricing for teams, agencies and high-volume commercial production, which means a quote rather than a rate. If your work is going to a festival or a television network, Pro is not an upsell, it is the licence you need.
The per-project option is the most interesting thing on this rate card for irregular producers. Our check recorded single-use licences from $49 per project, without a subscription, scaling with usage type and distribution scope. The arithmetic against the $49 a month Plus subscription is clean: $588 a year buys twelve project licences at that $49 floor, so a producer with four or five commercial deliverables a year pays less per project and nothing in the quiet months. Only the floor is published, though, and broader distribution costs more than $49, so get the actual quote before deciding.
Against the category Musicbed is the expensive specialist. Epidemic Sound Personal was $9.99 a month on our 10 June 2026 check, with Commercial at $49.99. Artlist Music + SFX was $259 a year, verified 11 June 2026, with a licence that survives cancellation. Storyblocks Audio was $149 a year, verified 12 June 2026, and bundles footage into All Access at $299 a year. Musicbed is the only one of the four that sells a one-off project licence.
All of this comes from a check made on 12 June 2026, about four months before this review was written, and we have not re-verified it since. The per-project floor is the figure most likely to have moved, because it is a starting point rather than a list price. Read the live rate card, and the stock media and music licensing category has the alternatives with their own dates.
Musicbed pricing
Musicbed prices by licence scope, monthly or per project, and the catalogue is the same whichever tier you are on. Everything below comes from our check of musicbed.com on 12 June 2026 and has not been re-verified since, so confirm it before you commit to a deliverable.
| Plan | Price | What it adds |
|---|---|---|
| Solo | $16.99/mo | $203.88 across a year. Personal online video, non-commercial, own channels only |
| Plus | $49/mo | $588 across a year. Commercial use, client work, branded content, YouTube monetisation |
| Pro | $99/mo | $1,188 across a year. Broadcast, film festivals, theatrical, all distribution rights |
| Enterprise | Custom | Quoted. Teams, agencies and high-volume commercial production |
| Per-project | From $49/project | Single-use licence with no subscription. The floor only; the price scales with distribution scope |
Enterprise and the broader per-project licences are quoted rather than listed. Five things drive what you are asked for:
- Whether the video is commercial. Non-commercial personal video sat on Solo at $16.99 a month; anything monetised or client-facing needed Plus at $49 on our 12 June 2026 check.
- Where it is distributed. Broadcast, festival and theatrical use was recorded on Pro at $99 a month rather than on Plus.
- Subscription against project. The $49 a month Plus tier is $588 a year, which equals twelve licences at the published $49 per-project floor, so your annual deliverable count decides which is cheaper.
- Team size and volume, which is what moves you from the listed tiers to an Enterprise quote.
- Scope creep after delivery. A licence bought for online distribution does not stretch to a broadcast cut, and re-licensing is a new transaction rather than a tier upgrade.
Musicbed pricing against the rest of the category
Musicbed is the dearest product in this category at every comparable tier, and it is also the only one selling one-off project licences. Epidemic Sound Personal was $9.99 a month, verified 10 June 2026, which is cheaper than Musicbed Solo while covering monetised own channels that Solo does not. On commercial scope, Epidemic Sound's Commercial tier was $49.99 a month against Musicbed Plus at $49, so the two are within a dollar. Artlist Music + SFX was $259 a year, verified 11 June 2026, with a licence that survives cancellation. Storyblocks Audio was $149 a year, verified 12 June 2026. These checks fall within three days of each other in June 2026.
Musicbed licence terms worth knowing
Every tier boundary here is a licence boundary, so the terms are the product.
- Solo
- $16.99 per month as of 12 June 2026, which is $203.88 across a year. Personal, non-commercial, own channels.
- Plus
- $49 per month, which is $588 across a year. The cheapest tier recorded as covering client work and monetisation.
- Solo to Plus step
- $32.01 a month more, which is $384.12 more across a year, for commercial scope rather than more music.
- Pro
- $99 per month, which is $1,188 across a year. Broadcast, festivals, theatrical, all distribution rights.
- Enterprise
- Custom pricing, quoted for teams, agencies and high-volume production.
- Per-project
- From $49 per project with no subscription. $588 of Plus equals twelve licences at that floor.
- Check date
- 12 June 2026. Not re-verified since, so get a current quote before delivering.
These figures are four months old and dated accordingly. The per-project floor is a starting point rather than a price, so treat any project arithmetic on this page as a method rather than a total. Our creator tool cost calculators will compare a subscription against a project count once you have real quotes.
What Musicbed gives up
Solo is the trap on this rate card, and it is worth stating bluntly. At $16.99 a month our 12 June 2026 check recorded it as personal, non-commercial, own channels only, which excludes a monetised YouTube video. A creator who buys Solo because the number looks reasonable and then runs ads has the wrong licence, and the fix is $49 a month rather than a few dollars.
The jump from Solo to Plus buys scope, not music. Nothing in the catalogue changes: you pay $32.01 a month more, which is $384.12 more across a year, for permission. That is a fair deal if you are selling the video and an expensive one if you are not.
Our check recorded no ContentID whitelisting. Epidemic Sound, verified 10 June 2026 at $9.99 a month on Personal, does record whitelisting on linked channels, so claims there are prevented rather than resolved. With Musicbed you hold documentation and handle the claim after it appears.
Music is all you get. There is no sound effects library and no footage recorded on our check, so a video editor who needs both will be paying someone else as well. Artlist Music + SFX was $259 a year on 11 June 2026 and Storyblocks All Access $299 a year on 12 June 2026, both of which bundle more asset types for less than a year of Musicbed Plus.
The per-project price is a floor, not a price. Our check recorded licences from $49 per project scaling with distribution scope, which means the number you pay for a branded film with a paid media budget behind it is one we have not verified and will not estimate. Ask before you cut.
Pro and Enterprise push the cost into a different bracket. $99 a month is $1,188 across a year for one person's music licence, and Enterprise is a quote. That is normal for broadcast work and indefensible for a channel that posts twice a month.
The pricing evidence here is from 12 June 2026 and is around four months old. On a product where the tier boundaries are legal rather than cosmetic, an out-of-date page is worse than usual, so verify the scope of your tier against Musicbed's own licence terms rather than against this review.
How Musicbed compares
The four tools below are the music and stock media subscriptions weighed against each other, and the axis is licence scope against cost. Each price is that vendor's own published rate with the date we checked it, all four within three days in June 2026. The wider field sits in the stock media and music licensing category.
| Tool | Best for | Price | Where it breaks |
|---|---|---|---|
| Musicbed | Commercial, broadcast and per-project delivery | $16.99/mo Solo, $49/mo Plus (June 2026) | Solo excludes monetised and client work |
| Epidemic Sound | Monetised own channels wanting claims prevented | $9.99/mo Personal, $49.99/mo Commercial (June 2026) | Licence lapses when the subscription does |
| Artlist | Archives that must stay licensed after cancellation | $199/year Music Only, $259/year with SFX (June 2026) | Annual billing only and no free trial |
| Storyblocks | Footage and audio under one annual fee | $149/year Audio, $299/year All Access (June 2026) | Audio is the weaker half of the bundle |
What to test in the Musicbed 14-day trial
Our 12 June 2026 check recorded a 14-day free trial on subscription plans. Two weeks is enough to test the catalogue against real briefs but not enough to drift, so plan the fortnight before you start it, and confirm the tiers first because our figures are four months old.
- Check musicbed.com/pricing for the current tiers and the per-project floor. Ours are from June 2026 and this is the step not to take on trust.
- Write down what you deliver and to whom, then match it to a tier: personal non-commercial video sat on Solo at $16.99 a month, client and monetised work on Plus at $49.
- Search the catalogue against two real briefs you have already had to solve elsewhere. Curation is the claim here, so test it on work rather than on a showreel.
- Count your commercial deliverables for the last twelve months. Twelve project licences at the published $49 floor equals the $588 a year that Plus costs, so the count tells you which model fits.
- If anything goes to broadcast, a festival or a cinema, ask about Pro at $99 a month before the edit rather than after it.
- If the work is weekly uploads to your own monetised channel, price Epidemic Sound Personal at $9.99 a month, verified 10 June 2026, and compare its catalogue on its own 30-day trial.
- If you need sound effects or footage as well, price Artlist Music + SFX at $259 a year, verified 11 June 2026, and Storyblocks All Access at $299 a year, verified 12 June 2026, with the cost calculators.
Musicbed questions buyers ask
How much does Musicbed cost?
Our check of musicbed.com on 12 June 2026 recorded four subscription tiers: Solo at $16.99 a month for personal non-commercial projects, Plus at $49 a month for commercial use, client work and YouTube monetisation, Pro at $99 a month for broadcast, film festivals and theatrical distribution, and Enterprise at custom pricing for teams and agencies. Per-project licensing was also recorded, without a subscription, starting at $49 per project and scaling with usage type and distribution scope. A 14-day free trial was recorded on subscription plans. Those figures are about four months old, so confirm them before you rely on a tier.
Does Musicbed Solo cover YouTube monetized videos?
No, and this is the most common source of confusion with Musicbed's plan structure. Our 12 June 2026 check recorded Solo at $16.99 a month as covering personal non-commercial projects only. If your YouTube channel has monetisation enabled, the content counts as commercial use and needs the Plus plan, recorded at $49 a month on the same check. Read the commercial use terms before subscribing to Solo. If you earn ad revenue from any content using Musicbed music, Plus is the tier you need, and the step up is $32.01 a month more rather than a small top-up.
What is Musicbed per-project licensing and how does it work?
Per-project licensing buys a licence for a single project or deliverable without a subscription. The flow asks about the project type, the distribution channels, online, broadcast or theatrical, and whether the use is commercial, and the output is a project-specific licence certificate covering that exact project. Our 12 June 2026 check recorded pricing from $49 per project for limited online distribution, scaling with broader distribution scope, so $49 is a floor rather than a typical price. The arithmetic against a subscription is straightforward: Plus at $49 a month is $588 across a year, which equals twelve licences at that $49 floor, so a producer with a handful of commercial projects a year pays less per project and nothing in the quiet months. Get the real quote for your distribution before deciding, because only the floor is published.
How does Musicbed compare to Artlist?
Both target professional creators, with different emphases. Musicbed curates harder and separates licence tiers more strictly around commercial use. Artlist has the broader catalogue, a perpetual licence on downloaded tracks and a simpler rate card; our snapshots record no catalogue counts for either, so we will not put numbers on that comparison. On price, our separate check of artlist.io on 11 June 2026 recorded Artlist Music + SFX at $259 a year, while our 12 June 2026 check recorded Musicbed Plus at $49 a month, which is $588 across a year, so Artlist costs well under half as much for a year of commercial-grade music. Choose Musicbed for premium commercial, broadcast or festival work where music quality is a requirement. Choose Artlist where perpetual licensing and price efficiency matter more.
Does Musicbed protect against ContentID claims?
Musicbed doesn't offer proactive ContentID whitelisting. Your license authorizes use, and if a ContentID claim is filed, you dispute it using your license documentation. The resolution process works, claims are resolved with documentation, but requires active management. For high-volume YouTube creators who want zero ContentID friction, Epidemic Sound's proactive whitelisting is more convenient. Musicbed's documentation-based model is more appropriate for commercial producers who upload less frequently and need strong license documentation for clients.
Who are Musicbed's notable clients?
Musicbed's client list includes Netflix, Apple, Spotify, and major global advertising agencies and brands. These clients license music for premium commercials, brand content, and media productions. The client association is relevant as a quality signal. The catalog has been validated at the highest production value level in the industry. It also indicates the catalog is licensed for broadcast and streaming platform distribution, which is directly relevant to filmmakers producing content for similar distribution channels.
Does Musicbed include sound effects?
No. Musicbed is music only and our 12 June 2026 check recorded no sound effects library, so effects need a separate subscription or purchase. That is a limitation next to the alternatives: Epidemic Sound recorded more than 90,000 sound effects included on our 10 June 2026 check, Artlist Music + SFX was $259 a year with more than 70,000 effects when we checked on 11 June 2026, and Storyblocks includes effects in its Audio and All Access plans, checked 12 June 2026. For video producers who use effects regularly, adding Musicbed to an existing effects subscription raises the total. If you want music and effects in one subscription at professional quality, Artlist Music + SFX is the more complete option.
Is Musicbed worth it compared to Epidemic Sound?
It depends on the content. For creators uploading weekly to a monetised channel, no: Epidemic Sound Personal was $9.99 a month when we checked epidemicsound.com on 10 June 2026, with ContentID whitelisting on linked channels and sound effects included, against Musicbed Plus at $49 a month on our 12 June 2026 check, so Epidemic Sound costs around a fifth as much for that job. For commercial filmmakers, brand video producers and agencies, where music quality shapes the client's perception of the work, Musicbed's premium is defensible. Comparing price per track is the wrong frame. Comparing the licence you need and the quality the deliverable demands is the right one.
Is there a free trial for Musicbed?
Yes. Musicbed offers a 14-day free trial on subscription plans with full catalog access. Unlike Artlist's no-trial policy, this gives you two weeks to test the catalog against real projects. Use the trial to work through music selection on at least two complete projects: testing the Moments-based discovery, evaluating catalog depth in your content niche, and comparing results directly against Artlist or Epidemic Sound's free catalogs.
What is the Musicbed Pro plan and who needs it?
Pro was $99 a month on our 12 June 2026 check, which is $1,188 across a year, and it was recorded as covering broadcast, film festival submissions, theatrical distribution and all distribution rights. You need it if you submit work to festivals, license content to broadcast networks, produce for streaming platforms, or need the widest distribution rights under one subscription. For most digital creators, Plus at $49 a month covers the distribution they do. Pro is for documentary filmmakers, commercial directors and producers whose work travels beyond online platforms.
