What is Safe Zones?

Safe zones are the areas of a video frame guaranteed to stay visible and unobstructed after platform interface elements, crops and device bezels are taken into account.

Two related ideas are bundled together here. Broadcast safe areas describe the inset margins where picture and titles survive display overscan. Platform safe zones describe the regions a social app covers with its own buttons, caption text, username and follow prompts, which differ from app to app.

This changes where you place text. A caption burned into the bottom 20 percent of a vertical video sits directly under the TikTok description and the Reels action column, so part of your audience never reads it. Knowing the safe zone before you design the title card saves you re-exporting every clip.

A workable rule for 9:16 at 1080x1920 is to keep essential text and faces inside roughly 150 pixels from the top and 250 to 350 pixels from the bottom, and clear of the right edge where the action buttons sit. Many editors ship a safe-zone overlay template, which is faster than guessing.

Where Safe Zones shows up

You will meet Safe Zones most often while comparing video editing saas - Descript, VEED, Kapwing, and InVideo all deal with it, though not in the same way or at the same price.
