What is Content Pillar?
A content pillar is one of the few recurring themes a creator publishes against, giving every piece a defined place and making the overall body of work recognisable.

Pillars are narrower than a niche and broader than a topic. A channel about home cooking might run three: 30-minute weeknight meals, equipment teardowns, and technique explainers. Each pillar has its own format, length and audience expectation, and together they describe what the channel is.
The decision this changes is what you say no to. With defined pillars, an idea that fits none of them is either a deliberate experiment or a distraction, and you can tell which. It also makes planning faster, because filling a month means filling slots within known formats rather than inventing from scratch each week.
Three to five pillars is the practical range. Assign each a rough share of your calendar, such as half to the pillar that drives subscriptions and smaller shares to the two that build trust, then review the split quarterly against what is actually performing and retire a pillar that is not earning its slot.
Where Content Pillar shows up
You will meet Content Pillar most often while comparing social media scheduling - CoSchedule, Buffer, Hootsuite, and Later all deal with it, though not in the same way or at the same price.
